Lucha Libre is somewhere between sport, theatre, and national mythology. Spending an evening at Arena México watching masked fighters perform for a crowd of ecstatic families is pure, undiluted joy.

As we headed back from our trip to Teotihuacan we still had some time left in Mexico City. We decided to use the last days to relax and also enjoy one of Mexicos most famous traditions: Lucha Libre! 👹

Lucha Libre is Mexican Wrestling with masked wrestlers, the Luchadores. All around the arena and in the city you can buy the masks, stickers, T-shirts and all other souvenirs. It is always a big event with lots of fun. Check out our video to see it for yourself! 😁

We booked our tickets beforehand and headed to the Arena Mexico on a friday evening. Really hyped we were looking forward to the action! Our seats weren’t perfect but the atmosphere was nonetheless amazing.

Everybody was cheering and used swear words against the opponent of their favorite luchador. Some first fights and some beers later, we were really into it! We shared the fun and excitement with the crowd. 🍻😅
Angel del Oro, Ultimate Guerrero or Mephisto were only some of the names we got to chant this evening. Altogether it was a great night! 😁
